De Niro Voices Frustration With Trump
Oscar-winning actor Robert De Niro has once again spoken out against Donald Trump, warning that the president “will never leave” office unless Americans act. Appearing on MS NOW and at a counter-State of the Union event called State of the Swamp, De Niro criticized the current administration, saying he felt “betrayed by my country” and lamenting the rise of what he described as authoritarian leadership.
“He jokes now about nationalizing the elections. He’s not joking. We’ve seen enough already,” De Niro said, adding that the nation must return to its core values to regain strength and humanity.
Trump Fires Back on Social Media
Following his State of the Union address, Trump used his Truth Social account to lash out at several critics, including De Niro and Democratic Representatives Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib. He labeled De Niro “deranged” and “seriously criminal,” comparing him unfavorably to Rosie O’Donnell, whose US citizenship he previously threatened to revoke despite Supreme Court rulings prohibiting such actions.
Trump’s post described De Niro’s emotional reaction prior to the address as “breaking down in tears, much like a child would do,” and criticized both the actor and other detractors in a rambling tirade.
Polls Reflect Growing Concerns
Public opinion surveys suggest Trump’s behavior is raising concern among Americans. A Reuters/Ipsos poll found that 61 percent of respondents believe Trump has become erratic with age, with majorities across Democrats, Republicans, and independents sharing the view. Another poll by Washington Post/ABC News/Ipsos reported only 39 percent of Americans approve of Trump’s job performance.
The surveys also highlighted broader unease about the age of US political leaders, with nearly 80 percent agreeing that elected officials in Washington are too old to represent most Americans. The average age of senators is 64 and representatives 58.
White House spokesman Davis Ingle dismissed the polls as “fake and desperate narratives,” but the exchange between Trump and his celebrity critics underscores the growing tension between the president and outspoken public figures.
