Officials Probe Suspected Coordinated Flights
Danish authorities reported drones flying over four airports from Wednesday night into early Thursday, prompting an investigation into a possible organized operation. Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen described the activity as methodical and likely carried out by a professional operator. Intelligence sources noted similarities with recent European drone incidents and pointed to potential Russian involvement, though no group has claimed responsibility.
Flight Operations Interrupted at Key Sites
Airports in Aalborg, Esbjerg, Sønderborg, and Skrydstrup experienced delays, with Aalborg—also a military base—seeing the most significant disruption. Skrydstrup, home to Danish fighter jets, was likewise affected. Drones were reportedly illuminated during the flights, but authorities opted not to engage them. Officials reassured the public that there was no immediate threat.
Denmark Plans Enhanced Security Measures
In response, Denmark is considering legislation to allow critical infrastructure operators to neutralize unauthorized drones. Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen is coordinating with NATO and EU partners on regional defenses, including the possibility of a “drone wall.” Justice Minister Peter Hummelgaard stated that the drone activity appeared aimed at spreading fear and division, highlighting the need for strengthened protection at sensitive sites.
