China is expanding cultural-tourism cooperation with Africa through new exchange initiatives. On November 7, 2025, Jinhua in Zhejiang province launched the “2025 China-Africa Cultural Silk Road Exchange Month”, aimed at promoting artistic and cultural collaboration between the regions.
As part of the launch, a wood-carving exchange exhibition opened, featuring works by 106 artists from 22 African countries. The exhibition showcases traditional craftsmanship alongside contemporary interpretations, highlighting the rich diversity of African art.
Officials said the initiative reflects China’s commitment to deepening cultural understanding, tourism collaboration, and artistic exchange with African nations. The program also seeks to create opportunities for cross-cultural dialogue and economic development through creative industries.
The exchange month includes workshops, performances, and exhibitions, giving African artists a platform to share their heritage while connecting with Chinese cultural communities and tourism initiatives.
Experts note that such events strengthen bilateral ties beyond trade and diplomacy, using cultural and tourism programs to foster goodwill and mutual understanding between China and Africa.
The wood-carving exhibition specifically highlights traditional skills and modern innovation, allowing artists to exchange techniques, collaborate on projects, and engage with new audiences. Visitors can experience a wide range of artistic styles, reflecting Africa’s diverse cultural landscape.
China-Africa cultural initiatives are part of a broader strategy to enhance tourism cooperation, attract international visitors, and showcase the potential of cultural industries as drivers of economic and social engagement.
The launch in Jinhua, a city known for its artistic and cultural heritage, emphasizes the role of local communities in supporting international cultural partnerships. Organizers hope the program will inspire continued collaboration between Chinese and African cultural institutions.
Through programs like the Cultural Silk Road Exchange Month, China and Africa aim to promote sustainable tourism, cultural awareness, and artistic innovation, strengthening the global presence of African art while encouraging travel and cultural exploration.
