Afghanistan announced on Sunday that its forces killed 58 Pakistani soldiers during overnight border fighting.
Officials said the operation responded to what they called repeated violations of Afghan territory and airspace.
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid confirmed the clashes and accused Pakistan of aggression along the frontier.
He said Afghan troops captured 25 Pakistani army posts and left 30 soldiers wounded.
“The situation on all borders is fully under control,” Mujahid told reporters in Kabul.
Kabul Vows Retaliation Amid Rising Tensions
Afghanistan’s Defence Ministry said its forces carried out “retaliatory and successful operations” along the border.
The ministry warned that any future violation would trigger a “strong and decisive response.”
Earlier this week, Afghan authorities accused Pakistan of bombing Kabul and an eastern market, though Islamabad denied involvement.
Pakistan has often targeted alleged militant bases inside Afghanistan, especially in mountainous regions near the frontier.
The two countries have clashed repeatedly over border control and militant activity.
Regional Conflict Threatens to Escalate
Pakistan accused Kabul of sheltering members of Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan, which Islamabad blames for domestic attacks.
Afghan officials rejected the claim, insisting they do not allow any group to use Afghan soil against neighbours.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said his forces “gave a strong reply and destroyed multiple Afghan posts.”
Pakistani officials released videos claiming to show damaged Afghan checkpoints, though media could not verify them.
The Pakistani army said its troops neutralised more than 200 “Taliban and affiliated militants” during the fighting.
Security sources reported Afghan forces opened fire across several areas in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, deepening the border crisis.
