Hong Kong Cantopop star Keung To has been banned from driving for three months after collecting 15 demerit points for several traffic offences committed last year. The order was issued by Eastern Court on Wednesday after the singer exceeded the limit allowed under the city’s probationary driving licence rules.
The court revoked Keung’s probationary driving licence and ordered him to surrender the document within 14 days. The 27-year-old singer did not attend the hearing because of work commitments. His lawyer appeared on his behalf and told the court that Keung had already lost the licence and had reported the matter to police.
Principal Magistrate David Cheung Chi-wai said Keung must make a declaration at the court registry if he cannot find the missing licence before the deadline. The magistrate explained that the court must receive confirmation if the document cannot be produced.
The court also made it clear that the driving ban applies to all types of vehicles. During the hearing, the magistrate warned that any violation of the disqualification order would be treated seriously.
He said anyone who drives while disqualified could face immediate imprisonment. The warning highlighted the legal consequences of failing to follow the court’s order.
Under Hong Kong’s probationary driving licence system, drivers who collect too many demerit points can lose their driving privileges. Authorities use the system to encourage safe driving and reduce repeat traffic offences.
The three-month disqualification means Keung will not be allowed to drive any vehicle during the ban. After the suspension ends, he must follow the legal requirements before returning to the road.
Keung is one of Hong Kong’s best-known Cantopop artists and a member of the popular boy band Mirror. Despite the court case, he continues to maintain a busy work schedule with music, television, and public appearances.
The latest ruling closes the legal proceedings related to his driving record, while the court has reminded him that strict compliance with the driving ban is required throughout the three-month suspension.
