Manchester City delivered a dominant performance at the Etihad, sweeping aside Manchester United 3-0 in a commanding derby victory that strengthened their position at the top of the Women’s Super League. Goals from Rebecca Knaak, Bunny Shaw and Lauren Hemp sealed the win and underlined City’s growing title credentials under Andrée Jeglertz.
United, meanwhile, suffered back-to-back league defeats for the first time since May 2024. With a thin squad balancing domestic and European commitments, fatigue was clear after their historic Champions League win over PSG. Marc Skinner admitted his side “gave City those goals” and insisted reinforcements are needed in the January window, though he maintained the title race isn’t over.
City were sharp from the whistle, overwhelming United with pace, precision and pressure. Hemp, making her first start since injury, caused constant problems down the left. After sustained dominance, City’s breakthrough came from a corner: Shaw headed across goal for Knaak to nod in. Minutes before halftime, a sweeping move ended with Shaw converting a low cross, and shortly after Hemp fired in from distance to make it 3-0.
United brought on Melvine Malard in the second half but created little, failing to register a single shot on target. Jess Park hit the post, but City remained firmly in control and could have scored more.
With wins over both Arsenal and Manchester United already this season, Jeglertz’s side have made a powerful statement nine games into the campaign.
