Ruben Amorim criticised his Manchester United players for becoming “too comfortable” after they threw away a lead twice before rescuing a 3-3 draw against Tottenham.
United looked in control after Bryan Mbeumo’s opener, but goals from Mathys Tel and Richarlison turned the game on its head before Matthijs de Ligt salvaged a point with a 96th-minute header.
Despite extending their unbeaten run to five games, Amorim was far from satisfied.
“We have a lot of problems — we are just at the beginning,” he said. “Sometimes the results make people think we’re improving, and we are, but there’s still a lot to do. We felt too comfortable during the game. We need to be more aggressive and understand that anything can change the atmosphere in one moment.”
The United manager also confirmed that Benjamin Šeško suffered a potential knee injury after coming off the bench: “We think he has a problem, but let’s see.”
Tottenham boss Thomas Frank defended his substitutions after fans questioned the withdrawal of Xavi Simons for Tel, who went on to score the equaliser. “Sometimes you’re lucky,” Frank admitted. “But every decision is to win the game — and Tel did really well.”
While Spurs’ winless home run continues, Frank saw positives:
“We’re so close to winning again here. It was a good performance against a strong United side that’s in form.”
